43 dead in Bailey Road building  fire

At least 43 people were killed after a fire broke out in a restaurant on Bailey Road of the capital Dhaka on Thursday night, confirmed the health minister. 

Samanta Lal Sen‍‍`s statement to the media came around 2am.  

Additionally, no fewer than 12 were injured and more than 60 people were rescued from the seven-storied building housing the posh eatery.  

Many of the injured were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the bodies, too, were taken to.

Anwarul Islam, warehouse inspector of Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) headquarters media cell, said the ablaze began in the "Kacchi Bhai"  restaurant Green Cozy Cottage), 02 New Baily Road 8: 50 pm.

However, the blaze was brought under control around 11:30pm.

Some 13 firefighting units from several stations rushed to the spo.

The origin of the fire could not be known immediately, the FSCD officer said, adding that details on this matter will be shared later.
